Jewellery can look similar in a photograph while being made from very different materials. Here is a simple guide to the terms used in our collection. The details on each product page apply to that specific piece.
Sterling silver
Sterling silver, often described as 925 silver, contains 92.5% silver. Some pieces in our collection are made from recycled sterling silver, as specified by their brand. Silver can tarnish and benefits from careful storage and suitable cleaning.
Gold-plated jewellery
Gold plating is a layer of gold over another metal, not solid gold. Our collection includes gold-plated sterling silver and gold-plated recycled brass; we identify the base metal in the product details. Plating can wear with use, so avoid abrasive cleaning.
Cubic zirconia
Cubic zirconia is a manufactured stone used for its clear sparkle. It is not a diamond. Diamonfire zirconia pieces in this collection use this type of stone; any supplier carat-size references should not be read as a diamond weight or diamond specification.
Pearls
Our product descriptions distinguish freshwater pearls from shell pearls wherever the supplier confirms the type. These are not interchangeable terms. If pearl type is important to your choice and is not specified, please ask us before ordering.
Steel, leather and natural stones
Some Fred Bennett designs use stainless steel or leather. Selected Laura Ashley pieces include green aventurine. Check the individual description for the combination used: not every piece from a brand has the same materials.
Choosing with confidence
