Jewellery Care

A little care helps jewellery keep its finish. Always follow any instructions supplied with your piece, as the right method depends on the metal, plating, stones and construction.

Simple everyday habits

  • Put jewellery on after perfume, hairspray and skincare have dried.
  • Remove it before swimming, showering, exercise, housework and sleep.
  • After wear, wipe gently with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Store pieces separately so chains do not tangle and hard edges do not scratch softer surfaces.

Silver and plated finishes

Sterling silver can tarnish over time. Plated silver and gold-plated pieces require gentler treatment than unplated silver: abrasive polish can damage the surface. Do not use a silver dip or polishing product unless it is suitable for the exact finish.

Pearls, stones and leather

Keep pearls and leather away from soaking, chemicals and direct sprays. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaning on these pieces. Avoid knocks to stone settings and check clasps before wearing.

When to ask for advice

If a stone feels loose, a fastening is damaged or you are unsure which cleaner is suitable, stop wearing the piece and ask for advice. Email hello@settleandstone.co.uk with the product name and a photograph if helpful.

Care needs vary. Read the material details on each product page and our materials guide before choosing a cleaning method.
